MEMBERS of a village-based art club have celebrated their organisation's 50th birthday.

Five decades of Sutton Art Club were marked with a lunch at the Dog and Gun Inn, Glusburn. The group has been running since March 27 1968.

Mollie Alred, secretary of the club, said: "We meet weekly at Sutton-in-Craven Community Centre, North Street, from September to the end of May and then fortnightly from June to the end of August on Wednesday evenings at 7pm to 9pm.

"Our club originally met in Sutton at St Thomas Hall, though we moved to the community centre a long time ago. We paint and draw in a range of styles and hold exhibitions of members' work, plus demonstrations and visits to different venues.

"Our numbers are holding steady at around a dozen members, and we've exhibited in Keighley and Skipton, plus had a variety of interesting demonstrators and activities throughout the year .

"Our 50-year celebration featured a very enjoyable lunch on Tuesday March 27. It's a lovely club and new members are welcome to join us. They can find out more by coming along to any of our meetings."
