ACTIVITIES in Bracken Bank, Laycock and Oakworth have been highlighted by community development worker Pip Gibson.

She is supporting residents and community groups in organising fun days, footpath improvements and social events.

The first event is this year’s Swing Into Spring family event at the Sue Belcher Centre on Friday, April 13 from 1pm to 4pm.

Attractions include spring lambs and furry friends, indoor market stalls, face painting, bouncy castle, ferret racing, street food, tombola, outdoor games, and “have a go” gardening.

The event, which follows the successful inaugural Swing Into Spring last year, is funded by Eccleshill Adventure Playground and Incommunities.

Pip is working with Oakworth Footpaths Initiative with volunteer residents, local businesses and Bradford Council rights-of-way officer Darren Hinchcliffe.

Improvements are planned for paths in the Mill Lane, Griffe Woods, Slaymaker Lane and Grey Scar/Wide Lane areas of Oakworth.

Pip is helping organise a spruce-up of the Laycock layby with residents, gardener Steve Thorpe and Keighley town councillor John Kirby, planned for April.

Pip is also involved in the free-admission Friday Project, at the Sue Belcher Centre each Friday during term-time from 10am to 2pm, with landscape art workshop, pub games, gardening and bingo.

Pip, whose work is funded by Keighley Town Council, is now appealing for volunteers for the projects, and requests from anyone in Keighley West ward who needs support with their own project.

She works in Bracken Bank, Laycock, Braithwaite, Ingrow, Fell Lane, Bogthorn, Exley Head, Westburn and Oakworth.
