A NEW Manorlands support group has raised over £8,000 with its first event.

A family fun day was held at Steeton Hall in memory of Colin Green, who was a popular customer at the hotel.

Mr Green, who died last year aged 63, was cared for at the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

More than 500 people attended the fun day, organised by the new Ilkley group.

Attractions included live and recorded music, refreshments, tombolas, raffles and children's games.

Mr Green's daughter, Katie Canning, who brought together the group, was delighted with the event's success.

And she paid tribute to all those who gave their support.

"I'd like to thank everyone who came together to help – with extra-special thanks to Angie and the team at Steeton Hall Hotel and to Acorn Stairlifts UK for donating a marquee," she said.

"There were dozens of other businesses that supported us too, and we are very grateful."

Mr Green's widow, Debbie, added her thanks to those who donated auction, raffle and tombola prizes.

Many were given by family and friends and by customers of the couple's Keighley-based business, Lowbridge Upholstery.

Sue Ryder fundraiser Andrew Wood, who attended the fun day, said: "This was a fantastic event and a credit to the new support group and all at Steeton Hall Hotel.

"Everyone involved should be proud of themselves. They know just what a difference an amount like this can make when someone else needs our care, as Colin did."
