Job Centre Plus confirms plans remain in place to move out of its current Keighley base

But no information is yet being released on when this move could take place, and where exactly the new Jobcentre would be.

The DWP spokesman said: “Our plan is to move Keighley Jobcentre to a co-location with other public services at some point in the future, bringing more of the services that customers and claimants use into one place.

“That has not changed since we made that announcement in July 2017. In the meantime, jobcentre services will continue to operate from Keighley, in Worth House.

“The changes we are making to our estate across the country will offer a more efficient service, and deliver good value for the taxpayer, saving over £135 million a year, for the next 10 years.”

Keighley MP John Grogan said he had been told that if and when the Keighley Job Centre does relocate, it will not be going far.

“The DWP have assured me that if they move the job centre it will remain within the town centre,” he said. “Clearly they have to remain within a short walk of the bus station.”

Keighley West councillor Cath Bacon, who is also Bradford Council’s anti-poverty champion, said it was important the needs of cash-strapped unemployed people are taken into account.

“I understand people on Job Seeker’s Allowance have to actively show they’re job hunting, which is something that costs time and money,” she said. “So if the DWP does move the Job Centre I’d be very keen for them to keep it in Keighley and as accessible as possible.

“People who are unemployed are already experiencing hardship. I wouldn’t want them having to travel even further to access the Job Centre.” when they could be spending that time looking for jobs instead.

“If the job centre is relocated I’d ideally like to see it go into Central Hall, in Alice Street.

“That’s a fantastic multipurpose building, which has good IT facilities and has charities using it which can offer people volunteering opportunities.”
