VOLUNTEERS from Keighley who have twice travelled to Bangladesh to help destitute refugees will soon be making two more aid missions.

Razaq Hussain and Aroj Ali, of the group 1 Vision, plan to return to Bangladesh in mid May to supply vitally needed provisions to the 800,000 Rohingya Muslim refugees stuck in overcrowded camps in south east Bangladesh.

1 Vision also intends to complete a follow-up trip in June, during the last week of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The Rohingya were forced out of neighbouring Burma in a campaign of violence and destruction.

Efforts to broker a deal for their safe return to Burma have so far failed, and the Rohingya now face contending with the monsoon season while living in their flimsy shelters.

1 Vision, which previously travelled to the refugee camps in October 2017 and in January this year, has already distributed tens of thousands of pounds worth of aid thanks to money collected from donors in Keighley and elsewhere in the UK.

When the group returns to Bangladesh it will again be working with the international charity Al-Imdaad Foundation to make sure provisions get to where they are needed most.

A spokesman for 1 Vision said: "Along with the usual aid and drinking water this time we will be distributing family food parcels.

"Each parcel will weigh 65 kilos and can feed a family of five for 30 days. These parcels cost just £45 each."
