A TOUCH of the West End is taking centre-stage in Glusburn.

Two star performers are leading a West End musical theatre workshop at the village's arts centre.

Will Breckin and Gemma Pipe, from Theatre Works Academy, will put youngsters through their paces in a session focusing on material from Beauty and the Beast and Hairspray.

At the workshop – on Saturday, May 12, from 10am to 1pm – children will learn choreography and staging from the shows, and they will be coached on vocals, acting, performance and dance technique.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for children to work with professionals from the West End and the UK's number-one touring shows," said a spokesman for the arts centre, in Colne Road.

Will – who is originally from Yorkshire – trained on a full scholarship at the Guildford School of Acting, gaining a degree in musical theatre.

He recently appeared in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat for Bill Kenwright Productions, playing Zebulon and understudying the role of Joseph.

His other acclaimed credits include the supporting lead role of Billy in the West End production of Dirty Dancing, and Wilbur in Charlotte's Web at the Gordon Craig Theatre, Stevenage.

He's also starred in a number of pantomimes including as Dick in Dick Whittington at Wakefield Playhouse, Prince Harry in Snow White at the Bahrain Arena and Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk at Middlesbrough Theatre.

Gemma grew-up in Suffolk and trained at Bird College, Sidcup.

During her time there she appeared in Seasons and Wonderlands at the Orchard Theatre, Dartford, and in Legally Blonde and The Addams Family Musical at Studio Theatre, Sidcup.

She graduated in 2015 with a first-class honours degree in professional dance and musical theatre and made her professional debut in January the following year, when she joined the cast of Joseph.

Gemma toured with the production for two years, as dance captain and assistant to the director, but also appearing as a handmaiden and covering the role of Mrs Potiphar.

She has also starred in Jack and the Beanstalk at Windsor Theatre Royal.

Between professional contracts, she teaches dance and musical theatre to a range of age groups.

The Glusburn workshop is for children aged five to 18 and the cost is £15 per person.
