SISTERS Sophie and Emily Baker had a ball – and boosted Manorlands' coffers.

They organised a ball as part of their work towards an events management degree.

And the event raised more than £3,200 for the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

A raffle alone coined-in over £1,000, with prizes donated by numerous businesses.

"We were overwhelmed by the generosity of local businesses which supported the event and people who gave their services for free," said Sophie, who with her sister is studying at Craven College in Skipton.

"Herrington Photography got some great shots on the night, Dave Robinson was a fantastic MC, and DJ Jack played the tunes to get us all dancing."

The event, at the Coniston Hotel & Spa at Coniston Cold, could now become an annual fixture.

Emily said: "We were delighted with the massive turnout.

"Everyone wants us to do it again next year, so we are excited about it becoming a yearly event."

Tribute is paid by Molly Ralphson, a community fundraiser at Manorlands.

"Sophie and Emily did a fantastic job organising the ball," she said.

"They had to change the date because it was originally planned for when we had all the snow, so to continue with it and raise such a fantastic amount for the hospice is brilliant!

"Everyone at Manorlands is really grateful to them. We know how useful the donation will be in being able to continue providing our specialist care."
