A TEAM of Yorkshire Water employees from across the district has scaled Britain's highest mountain for charity.

Fifteen workers, including colleagues from the company's contract partner RPS, tackled the challenge to raise cash for WaterAid.

Their effort coined-in £1,340.

The staff – part of Yorkshire Water's 'leakage west' team, covering the Bradford, Halifax and Skipton regions – encountered heavy snow and a terrifying ice bridge during their ascent of the 4,411ft mountain.

"It was hard work and a few of us got cramps and blisters but it was a brilliant experience," said Adam Williams, the company's process performance analyst.

"We worked really well as a team and it is an experience we will never forget.

"To raise that amount for such a brilliant charity really capped it off.

"I'd like to thank RPS, which sponsored the minibus."

Tribute is paid to the team by WaterAid.

Christine Mellor, for the charity, said: "Scaling Ben Nevis is a serious test of stamina, like the daily struggle faced by millions of people in the developing world who often have to walk miles to find water.

"We would like to warmly thank the climbers, who should all be very proud of their efforts. They will enable us to reach even more people with clean water and toilets."
