AN appeal to help fund treatment for a disabled girl with severe cerebral palsy raised more than £1,270 over the weekend.

A cake, bun and preserves sale in Keighley’s Airedale Shopping Centre and a car boot sale at Ilkley Cricket Club drummed up this impressive sum for the appeal to support 11-year-old Charlotte Wormald.

Charlotte is due to travel with her mother to a sanatorium in the Czech Republic in July to receive intensive therapy for her condition.

She now lives in Menston but was born in Airedale Hospital and previously lived in Riddlesden.

Charlotte suffered serious health problems when she was just days old. She and her twin sister, Emily, were born 14 weeks prematurely.

She receives physiotherapy from her mother every day to alleviate the spasticity in her body, and to help keep her off medication which has powerful side effects.

She will spend two weeks in the Czech Republic for specialist treatment known as TheraSuit Therapy.

Charlotte’s mum, Radka, said: “Charlotte is a very sweet, loving little girl with a great sense of humour and she always makes us laugh.

“She is a joy to be around and is an absolute star. When other children can play outside she has to put up with me doing all her physio and therapies on a daily basis.

“She loves music, playing table or computer games with her twin sister Emily and her dad, swimming, baking, watering the garden and days out.

“Charlotte uses a wheelchair and goes to a special school in Sheffield, called Paces School for Conductive Education, which has been very good for her. It’s worth the long journey.

“I’d like to thank Charlotte’s Grandma, June Wormald, her family and friends for their tireless fundraising over the years so we can afford to provide Charlotte with everything she needs and what we think is best for her.”

June Wormald, from Steeton, who organised the cake and preserves sale in the Airedale Centre on Saturday, (June 2) said she was delighted with the outcome of the event, which generated £1,059.

She said 10 people, including herself, clubbed together to make the enticing range of produce which proved extremely popular with Airedale’s shoppers and visitors.

“We’re very lucky with the backing we get from people, including all those who helped out on the day,” she added.

“On Sunday morning we also had a car boot sale at Ilkley Cricket Club, which raised another £213.

“Thank you to all the bakers, the staff and management at the Airedale Centre and everyone who bought goods from us.”

Mrs Wormald said that weather permitting, she and her fellow fundraisers hoped to be at the next Haworth Car Boot Sale on June 16, outside the Three Acres, in Bingley Road, to raise more money for the same cause.
