THE LEMON Tree has invited leading singer and songwriter Clive Gregson to perform a gig.

The cafe and bistro in Oakworth Road, Keighley, is making a name for itself as a venue for quality musicians across the world.

The latest headliner is no exception, regarded by Guitar Player magazine as one of the greatest guitarists in the world.

He will be at the Lemon Tree on June 23 to perform new songs and favourites from his massive back-catalogue.

Clive Gregson emerged onto the music scene in his native Manchester with the band Any Trouble.

Music magazine Melody Maker described Any Trouble as the most exciting new rock ‘n’ roll group since The Pretenders.

Clive later went on to form a ground-breaking duo with Christine Collister, touring worldwide to critical acclaim and winning the accolade “the state of the art in British folk-rock” from Rolling Stone magazine.

Much of the duo’s back catalogue has been re-issued, including a deluxe edition of Home & Away in 2015.

Clive has featured on countless albums and toured with stellar musical line-ups. His songs have been covered by well-known performers including Norma Waterson, Kim Carnes, Fairport Convention and Nanci Griffith.

In the sleeve notes of his album Long Story Short, Clive reveals his habit of jotting down ideas, overheard conversations, unusual phrases, in a notebook: the resulting songs are testament to his powers of observation and his unique take on life.

His ability to capture the absurd or just plain interesting and his inventive use of the English language is complemented by his love of experimentation with guitar tunings.

Clive’s latest CD Underwater Dancing, with Liz Simcock, continues that trend and features an eclectic mix of songs, written by Clive especially with the new duo in mind.

FRoots magazine described the album as Clyde’s best in years, saying: “A job more than well done”.

Clive has become as well known for his musical collaborations as for his solo work, linked with artists as diverse as Richard Thompson, Christine Collister, Eddi Reader, Boo Hewerdine, Nanci Griffith and Dennis Locorriere (the voice of Dr Hook).

The Best of Clive Gregson, released in 2009, was an 18-song collection, selected from eight solo albums spanning 1985 to 2005.

It featured features popular live tracks, songs that had been recorded by other artistes, folk club standards and pop classics.

The 2010 Any Trouble comeback album Life in Reverse featured Ashley-written Gregson songs and reunited the original band with producer John Wood. The follow-up, Present Tense was released on their UK tour in 2015.
