A PROVISIONAL date for the first meeting of a friends group for Oxenhope Rose Garden was agreed at a parish council meeting in the village.

The date of July 4 was suggested after local resident Stuart Taylor asked what progress was being made with the project to transform and improve this public green space.

He said that following the initial bout of clearance work at the garden the scheme appeared to have "stalled", and added the recent dry weather meant the remaining plants could be in need of watering.

Oxenhope Parish Council chairman, Councillor Ken Eastwood, said there first needed to be a meeting of the Rose Garden friends group to help make decisions on which direction the project will take.

Cllr David Ashcroft said: "As a parish council we need to get behind helping to start off the friends group, before momentum dissipates."

Roger Smales, another Oxenhope resident at the meeting, recommended coming up with a friends meeting date then and there.

Councillors and members of the public provisionally accepted July 4, as long as the Oxenhope Methodist Church venue is available.
