A KEIGHLEY school has received a glowing Ofsted report.

Holycroft Primary is celebrating maintaining its ‘good’ rating from Government inspectors.

The school was praised for its leadership and strong relationships with the community.

Safeguarding was described as effective, and the inspection team said parents were encouraged to play a “very active” role in their children’s learning.

Tribute is also paid to the school’s early-years provision.

Pupils “quickly thrive in an exciting environment that is rich in language and interesting experiences”, said the inspectors.

Teachers and teaching assistants were praised for “using a range of effective strategies in their questioning of pupils to stimulate and deepen their understanding and confidence”.

Also singled-out for acclaim were the relationships between pupils, and between the children and adults, which were “marked by kindness and respect”.

Headteacher, Geoff Morrison, said the school was delighted with the report.

He added: “We work exceptionally hard as a school community, including the staff and parents, to ensure our children get the best possible start in life.

“As the report states, ‘children learn how to get on together and are safe and well behaved. They enjoy learning and being together’.

“We were also pleased that Ofsted recognised that pupils are happy at Holycroft.

“The inspectors observed that ‘pupils like coming to school. They are very appreciative and aware of the effort and care that you and your staff put into keeping them safe’.”

Mr Morrison said that last year, a Department for Education report showed that pupils at Holycroft made more progress in writing than at any other school in Bradford district.

Ofsted carried out its short inspection in April.

It was the first to be held since the Victoria Road school was rated as ‘good’ in June, 2014.

The previous inspection report highlighted the need to improve maths teaching across the school, and inspectors this time said the weakness had been addressed “very successfully”. They added that maths teaching was now good and pupils did well in the subject.
