LOW Wood Scout Activity and Camping Centre in Riddlesden could win a share of the Jewson Building Better Communities prize fund.

The Scouting organisation's new facility on the former golf course has invited votes from the public to help secure a portion of £250,000 worth of building materials.

The prize will help the centre transform the disused golf club into an easily accessible activity centre for scouts and other youth-based organisations.

Prizes will be allocated based on the results of the public vote - with the deadline for voting closing on Wednesday June 20 - as well as on recommendations from an industry judging panel.

Thierry Dufour, managing director at Jewson, said: “Since we launched the Building Better Communities competition in 2015, we’ve seen first-hand the incredible work that community groups and tradespeople are doing across the UK.

"They’re making a huge difference in their local areas and we want to give back to them, which is why we urge residents in Keighley to cast their vote and support a local cause that could benefit from a helping hand.”

The Building Better Communities initiative rewards both community projects and heroes of the building trade.

Jewson will award one community project up to £50,000, as well as many smaller prizes to other projects.

It will also give away £100,000 of the overall fund to tradespeople who go above and beyond in their local area, or builders who have always supported others but now find themselves in need.

The winning projects will be announced on Tuesday July 3 at a ceremony hosted by celebrity architect, George Clarke.

Mr Clarke, who is involved in Building Better Communities for the second year running, said: “The funds donated as part of the Building Better Communities initiative have already made a huge difference to local charities and community groups, and can do the same for the Low Wood Scout Activity and Camping Centre. It’s an honour to be supporting them.

"I hope members of the public get behind their local community and cast their vote.”

The initiative is being supported by Jewson supplier brands: Velux, Marshalls, Polypipe, British Gypsum, Tarmac, Recticel and Norbord.
