AIREDALE NHS Foundation Trust is planning a week of events to celebrate 70 years of the National Health Service.

A tea party, history display and performances from the Airedale Hospital choir will be among the activities.

And local historian Ian Dewhirst, who compiles the Keighley News' popular Memory Lane column, is giving a talk.

Ian will speak on Aspects of Keighley Hospital History – touching on a First World War hospital that treated 13,000 military cases, giving anecdotes from records and talking about the workhouse infirmary that became St John's Hospital and the Victoria Hospital.

The free talk is on the actual NHS birthday – Thursday, July 5 – from 7pm to 8.30pm in the lecture theatre at the hospital Education Centre.

To book a place, visit nhs70keighley.eventbrite.co.uk or call 01535 294541.

As part of the birthday activities, the trust is also inviting young people to create celebratory artwork.

Winners in each of four age categories will receive a prize and the artwork will be displayed around the hospital.

The closing date for entries is next Friday, June 22.
