A CHURCH on the outskirts of Stanbury witnessed an impressive turnout of people to celebrate its 200th anniversary.
Dozens of people gathered to mark the special, landmark occasion at Scar Top Chapel earlier this month. (June)
Kathleen Snowden, trustee of the church, said: “It was standing room only, and the church was packed.
“We served afternoon tea to everyone who was there. There were some people present who hadn’t seen each other for a long time, so there was a lot of catching up going on.
“Different people involved with the church gave talks about the chapel, its history, what it means to them and how they had grown up with it.
“The weather was perfect and the chapel looked lovely, as it had been decorated with flowers and a big 200 years sign which was made by Oldfield School.
“The sign was put up at the front of the chapel and decorated with England flags and Yorkshire Roses.”
She added the anniversary event on June 10 featured well received performances by members of the Oxnop Singers group.
“We also had a collection which raised the remarkable sum of £708,” she said. “It was just a great day, with a real ‘feel good’ factor.”
