AN annual charity event has raised a new record amount.

Delighted Bronte Vintage Gathering (BVG) organisers have announced that last month's extravaganza coined-in £35,000.

Crowds flocked to the showfield in Haworth Road, Cullingworth, over both days of the sun-soaked event.

A huge range of attractions was staged, from a sheep show and camel racing to fairground rides and classic vehicles.

"Last year we raised a record £31,000 and after this year's event we hoped we might match it – but to exceed that is just wonderful," said Trish Wood, co-secretary of the BVG group.

"We're absolutely thrilled.

"We'd like to say a huge thank-you to everyone who supported the event – those who helped, people who donated and everybody that came along – and made it such an incredibly successful weekend."

The gathering, in aid of Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice Manorlands, was the 20th organised by the group.

And since it began, the event – together with other activities staged by the same team – has raised over £400,000.

Tribute is paid by Manorlands senior community fundraiser, Hayley Ibbotson.

"The total raised at the latest event is truly amazing and it will make such a difference to so many patients and families in the local area," she said.

"We are incredibly proud of the organising committee and its army of helpers, who all work so hard to make the weekend such a successful one enjoyed by so many. "

The BVG group's next event is an annual charity night, at Keighley Rugby Union Football Club, on November 17.

It will include a pie and peas supper, stalls and an auction.
