A NEW LGBT support group has been launched in Keighley and Craven.

It has been set-up as a community group specifically for the area after being part of the Bradford organisation for five years.

Its membership is drawn from a district stretching from Keighley to Settle.

Secretary Helen Hallam said: "We offer friendship, help and support to all LGBT and non-binary people aged over 18.

"A lot of LGBT people feel isolated and lonely and many, especially those who are older, have a problem telling others that they are gay and talking about it openly.

"It can be hugely difficult for them.

"Also, even in our present-day society, there is still a lot of abuse directed at those within the LGBT community.

"We don't seek any special treatment. All we ask for is the same respect that would be shown to anyone else."

The group currently meets monthly, but it is hoped to increase that, and there is a busy programme of events and social functions.

Meetings are normally held on the third Saturday of each month, from noon to 2pm, at the Healthy Living Centre in Scott Street, Keighley.

People can simply turn up. Alternatively, e-mail lgbtkeighley@gmail.com or call 07404 840598.
