COUNCILLORS have spoken to residents of two streets in Oakworth after local people raised concerns about chronic parking problems.

Worth Valley Ward councillors Rebecca Poulsen and Chris Herd, Keighley town councillor Luke Maunsell and Marie Copley from Keighley Area Co-ordinator's office met people living in Windsor Crescent and Windsor Grove on the evening of June 19.

Commenting afterwards, Cllr Maunsell said: "I was delighted to attend the recent, very successful consultation on Windsor Crescent and Windsor Grove.

"Cllr Poulsen, Cllr Herd, Marie Copley and myself spoke to dozens of residents about parking problems in the area and asked for their suggestions on how to alleviate their concerns.

"I was really happy with the responses we received and want to thank every single resident for their involvement.

"This is a longstanding issue with no easy solution, but it's undeniable that something needs to be done.

"I'm very hopeful that a sustainable, sensible solution can be found and will work with both the district and the parish council to help achieve this."

Cllr Herd said space for parking was very restricted on these streets with many residents having no off-street parking at their own homes.

He stressed no decision had been made on how to resolve the area's parking problems, noting that the views expressed by residents last week would be passed onto Bradford Council's Highways department.

Cllr Poulsen said: "We had a successful evening going door-to-door with lots of people in who spoke to us and gave suggestions and ideas.

"We're collating their responses to see what can be put forward to improve the situation.

"These are narrow roads, which aren't wide enough for people to park on both sides without parking on pavements.

"Nowadays you can have two or three cars at one house, and people have to park somewhere.

"People can get upset if someone else parks outside their house, and this can cause aggravation between neighbours which is not what we want."
