BRADFORD’S Youth Orchestra are performing in a number of high profile concerts this summer, including events in Bradford and France.

The Youth Orchestra is run by Bradford Council’s Music and Arts Service, and features performers from both primary and secondary schools across the district, including schools in the Keighley area.

At 6pm tomorrow (July 13) the group will be in Bradford Festival, Centenary Square, Bradford.

A council spokesman said: “As part of the Schools’ Day of the Bradford Festival, the Youth Orchestra is collaborating with Hip Hop Soul group Normanton Street to provide an orchestral backing for five of their tracks.

“This is a new development for the orchestra and a rare opportunity to mix two very different musical styles. More details about the band can be found at normantonstreet.com/about”

From July 25 to 29 the orchestra will go on a tour to La Rochelle, in France.

The spokesman added: “The orchestra tours abroad bi-annually and previous destinations have included Austria, Italy, and Poland with concerts always being well attended and well received.

“This year, the orchestra heads for La Rochelle, where they will perform three concerts during their stay, all in outdoor locations.”

Councillor Imran Khan, Bradford Council’s portfolio holder for Education, Employment and Skills, said: “Bradford’s Youth Orchestra goes from strength to strength.

“The programme they are involved in over the summer will provide them with a fantastic experience, which will enrich their whole education, as well as bring enjoyment to hundreds of people.

“Great credit must go to all the young people and the teachers, staff and parents who support them for their hard work and commitment.”
