AT a well-attended open event on Sunday, July 8, local residents gave enthusiastic support to plans to develop a new community hub in the centre of the village.
The Parish Council, working with the Community Library, Civic Society and other village volunteers, is planning to re-open the Old School as a new community building, offering a flexible public space, available free of charge, for small group meetings, activities and social get-togethers. The building is currently closed for structural reasons.
Addingham ward councillor Adrian Naylor, (Ind, Craven), who is also a member of the Parish Council, welcomed everyone to the event. He said: “We have to get the Old School back in business again as soon as possible. Our plans for a hub, which can be used by a wide range of community groups – for small meetings, activities, clubs – or just for socialising and having a chat over a cup of coffee, are such an exciting opportunity for us to do this. And best of all, use of the hub will be free of charge. Just a matter of raising the funding for the repairs and renovation of the building first - we’re putting every effort into achieving this.”
