CLIFFE Castle Park and Haworth’s Central Park have been named among the best in the UK.

They are among six Bradford district parks to recently receive a prestigious Green Flag Award from the Keep Britain Tidy charity.

The scheme, run on behalf of the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, is the benchmark national standard for parks and green spaces in the UK.

The inclusion of Cliffe Castle Park follows the Heritage Lottery Funded refurbishment work and re-opening last Christmas. Judging took place earlier this year.

The Green Flag award scheme, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, described the result as “marvellous”.

She added: “We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication of staff and volunteer groups and the hard work put in to maintain such high standards.

"We are fortunate to have such beautiful parks in our district and they are great places to spend time with family and friends. There are some fantastic events planned in our parks over the summer.”
