IT’S “OUT of the swamp and into the junkyard” as Phil Dirt headlines a new Keighley live music session.

Phil is an American singer-songwriter living in West Yorkshire following a lifetime of nomadic living.

He will perform on Sunday, August 12 at 3pm during the session organised by Keighley singer-songwriter Ben Blue Waters at the Woolpack in King Street, off South Street near Kwik-Fit.

Ben said: “Moving from town to town and even country to country, Phil’s guitar and notebook have always been by his side.

“His journey has taken him through the halls of rock, Southern Americana, and even through the mountains of country music and moonshine. A bit of grit in his voice is right at home with the soulful heartfelt songs of experience and life.

“Backed by the Heavy Machines, featuring tea chest bass and junkyard drumkit, they serve up a swampy stew of goodtime blues, country and rockabilly, bound to put a smile on your face and get your feet tapping.”

Ben is a solo acoustic slide guitar player and singer will be performing classic blues songs from the 1920s onwards, along with original songs.

He has been playing music and gigging since the 1970s, sometimes in bands and sometimes solo, playing various genres from R&B to punk to avant garde.

Along the way he has always maintained a deep love of the simple country blues of artists like Son House and Robert Johnson, and the urban blues of Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker.

That’s first official show as a solo blues artist was in 2010 at Weymouth’s annual Lupus Festival.
