SAFETY concerns at community buildings in Haworth and Bracken Bank have been addressed by grants from the Craven Trust.

The Craven and Beamsley Trusts awarded funding to Bronte Spirit and the Sue Belcher Centre as part of a £9,400 payout at their July meeting.

The joint trusts agreed grants for community groups across Keighley and Craven totalling £6,400, and a further £3,000 to individuals in need.

Also benefiting were the Friends of Phoenix Special School, The Principle Trust, Oxenhope Youth Club and Friends of Silsden Green Places.

Bronte Spirit look after and maintain the upkeep of important heritage building, the Old School Room, next to the Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth.

A Craven Trust spokesman said: “The group had already made significant improvements to their building and facilities but found themselves with an out of date emergency lighting system and no spare funds to update it.

“Our grant ensures that the building can be used safely by everyone.

The Craven Trust has also helped to improve safety at the Sue Belcher Centre on Bracken Bank Avenue by contributing to the cost of new fire doors.

The spokesman added: “These two groups are great examples of groups with dynamic volunteers who are committed to spending lots of their spare time to help make their community buildings safe and available to the public.

“Sometimes small grants can make a real difference to these groups and mean that the committees are freed up to organise exciting events and activities for their communities.”

Each year the Craven and Beamsley Trusts make grants of over £35,000 to good causes in Craven and Keighley.
