A SCOUT group is seeking new leaders.

The Oakworth outfit is appealing for volunteers in its Cub and Scout sections.

It follows the departure, due to other commitments, of popular leaders Ruth and Robert Payne.

The group – which has been operating for over half a century – caters for more than 55 young people across Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

Leaders plan the programme and run the weekly term-time meetings, plus activities such as camps.

Responsibilities can be split but each section needs an officially-named leader.

Group Scout Leader, Martin Van der Boon, said: "As leaders in Scouting you'll meet new people, try things you haven't tried before and develop new skills.

"You don't need lots of outdoors or camping experience, though you may have knowledge and skills already which could be shared with the young people.

"Support is provided by assistant section leaders, other committed helpers, a local committee – including a treasurer and chairman – and the district and national organisation, and there is a thorough course of training. It's possible to carry out the role for a trial period to see how you find it."
