A COMMUNITY celebration is being held as part of the official reopening of a section of revamped canal towpath.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place alongside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Silsden, near the Keighley Road bridge, on Saturday (Aug 18).
And a community event – with music from Hall Royd Brass Band, free bike checks, refreshments and information stalls – will run from 11am to 2pm.
Guests at the reopening will include Keighley MP John Grogan, chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for waterways.
Improvements have been carried out to the towpath as part of a £2.9 million scheme of upgrades, to boost cycling and walking access, on four West Yorkshire canals.
The scheme is an element of West Yorkshire Combined Authority's £60m CityConnect programme, which works in partnership with local authorities and other organisations.
