KEEPING communities tidy is everyone's responsibility.

That's the message being issued to residents as an anti-fly-tipping campaign in Keighley Central ward gathers momentum.

Householders have been provided with information on tackling and reporting fly-tipping, both through enforcement and community action.

Ward councillors Khadim and Abid Hussain and Zafar Ali have shown their support by speaking directly with residents.

And volunteers have also been involved, with some taking on the role of 'community street champions'.

They work in partnership with council officers, raising awareness of the importance of clean neighbourhoods and organising litter action days.

As part of the next stage of the campaign, posters will be displayed in shops, community centres and schools.

Also, businesses will be asked to give their backing by helping to raise awareness and reporting any fly-tipping they see taking place.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's executive member for healthy people and places, said: "With the wider community working in partnership with the council, we welcome the opportunity to significantly reduce the number of fly-tipping incidents across Central ward this year and beyond.

"If you see fly-tipping taking place, please note down as many details as possible – including vehicle licence plate numbers – and inform the council."

Fly-tipping can be reported at bradford.gov.uk or by calling 01274 431000.

Anyone wanting further information or interested in becoming a community street champion should contact ward officer Liz Horn on 01535 618008.
