A CHARITY event based around the 1980s hit 99 Red Balloons was a soaraway success.

The £667 raised at the 80s night, at the Golden Fleece in Oakworth, has been handed-over to Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice Manorlands.

A further £178, from a bar-top collection can, was also presented.

The event included dancing to hits from the era, played by resident DJ and events organiser Chris Smith, who donated his fee from the night.

Ninety-nine red balloons were sold, which when burst contained various prizes.

Landlady Sue Robinson pays tribute to all those who gave their support.

"We received lots of fantastic raffle prizes from many local people and businesses and we'd like to say a big thank-you to everyone who contributed," she said.

Thanks are also expressed by senior Manorlands fundraiser, Hayley Ibbotson.

"The hospice is tremendously grateful for the time and effort involved in raising this fantastic amount," she said.

"We are so dependent on the public supporting us by organising events like this, so that our care in the community can continue."
