FAMILIES travelling to Pakistan are being warned to be extra vigilant after two women and a young child from Keighley were robbed.

The family group, from the Dalton Lane area, was travelling by road after arriving at the new Islamabad International Airport when the vehicle was targeted.

Keighley Central councillor Zafar Ali – who is also the current Lord Mayor of Bradford – has been involved in efforts to help and support the family, which is still in Pakistan.

"It's been an absolutely terrifying experience for them," he said.

"They'd been picked-up from the airport and were being taken to where they were to stay when the car was stopped by what they believed were police officers.

"However it turned out they were robbers, who took everything – jewellery, money, passports, clothing.

"The family was left with nothing.

"Fortunately none of them were physically injured, but they've been extremely upset by the incident.

"They'd landed at the airport at around three in the morning so it was a fairly quiet time on the roads.

"What's happened is deeply concerning.

"We're in touch with the authorities and doing everything we can to assist the family.

"Meantime I'd urge any other families flying out there to be extremely vigilant and on their guard."
