BUDGET supermarket chain Lidl has a trio of developments on its wish-list for Pembrokeshire.

The retail giant aims to have 1,000 stores in the UK by 2022,which includes more in Wales.

It has now named Tenby as one of the towns in which it hopes to gain a foothold.

Lidl is also looking to re-locate its current stores in Milford Haven and Pembroke Dock.

It recently completely re-built and expanded its store in Haverfordwest.

Lidl says it has "ambitious expansion plans" and aims to open "around 40-50" new stores every year.

The company is appealing online for suitable sites "to continue our phenomenal growth".

It is seeking "prominent" sites of at least 1.5 acres, in "town, district, edge of centre or out-of-town locations".

Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire MP Simon Hart said of Lidl's hopes for a Tenby site: "Whether or not a well-known branch appears in Tenby is a matter for the council and planning authorities who will be responsible for granting or refusing planning consent.

"It will also be down to shoppers' preferences, so if there is no demand, there will be no Lidl.

"Planners will also need to consider whether the application is bringing much-needed new jobs to the area."
