A KEIGHLEY resident will be among a group to be officially recognised at a gala dinner next month.

The event, being staged by Professional Muslim Institute (PMI), at 7pm on September 12 in Bradford’s Anam’s Restaurant, will celebrate the achievements of Muslim professionals from the Bradford and Keighley districts.

Javed Bashir, of Highfield, will be honoured for his inclusion in the Muslim Power 100 list. He was instrumental in setting up PMI to cultivate leadership in the British Muslim community.

“PMI wants to develop leaders who will enable British Muslims to contribute fully for the common good of both Muslim and wider society,” he said.

The dinner, themed as “Celebrating Excellence”, will also highlight the separate achievements of Bradford-based Muslims Zulfi Karim, Nadira Mirza, Mabs Hussain and Sofia Buncy.

A PMI spokesman said: “In whatever field they chose, these professionals led the way, bringing with them talent, drive and enthusiasm to help build a fairer and stronger society and paving the way for future generations.”

The dinner costs £20 per head and people interested in attending should e-mail pmiukorg@gmail.com
