TRIBUTE is paid to A-level students across the district by Bradford Council's senior education councillor.

Cllr Imran Khan, portfolio holder for education, employment and skills, said there were many outstanding results.

"Congratulations go to each and every one of those young people on reaching this point after years of hard work by them and the dedicated staff – not forgetting the crucial support given by families," he said.

"Education is a top priority for us.

"We recognise the need to improve consistently over time so that as the youngest city in the UK, we can make sure economic growth is felt by as many people as possible. We shall not rest on our laurels.

"Ofsted ratings for effectiveness of leadership and management are 'good' or 'outstanding' for many of our secondary schools.

"We have made many changes and we know what further improvements are needed."

Michael Jameson, the council's strategic director for children's services, added his congratulations.

And he said advice and support was available for students who hadn't done as well as hoped.

"We've all been rooting for our young people and really hope they have achieved what they have worked so hard for," he said.

"However, if they haven't quite got what they expected then there's plenty of advice and support available through Bradford Council and our district partners to consider all options.
