THE TOP brass is appearing at next month’s Groovy Happening.

General James Blakk will take the stage in Haworth on September 1 alongside singer-songwriters Nathan Harrison, Gordon Roger and John Bruce.

General James Blakk are in reality not a person, but an alternative rock band playing a wide range of covers, some which people will know and some which people will not.

Groovy spokesman Ann Wiles said: “General James Blakk are a four-piece band made up of experienced musicians who play for enjoyment but take their music seriously.

“Over the years they have shared the stage with bands such as Limehouse Lizzy, The Skeletal Family and Rebel Truce. We are always happy to have them back to perform at Groovy Happening.”

Also on the bill will be John Bruce, an experienced solo acoustic musician with a huge repertoire of music from folk to pop.

Ann said: “At the Groovy he will be fronting John Bruce and Friends with John Brooksbank on bass guitar and Steve Gibson on drums. They will be performing a good selection of covers from pop to rock.”

Also playing will be Haworth-born Nathan Harrison, commonly known by nickname Nay, who may be remembered by local music fans as former lead guitarist in New Age Syndrome.

Ann said: “Nathan has been playing solo for the past few years and has developed his own unique style but with influences from Newton Faulkner, Andy McKee and John Butler amongst other percussive folk musicians.

“Gordon Roger, a local singer songwriter will be appearing for the third time here, playing his own 70s-influenced material and some covers.”

Groovy Happening is upstairs at the Parkside Social Club, Butt Lane, in Haworth. Doors open at 7.30pm and admission is £3. There will be a raffle and Phil’s disco to end the night.
