A TESTIMONIAL football match has netted more than £935 for a hospice.

The game was staged to mark the retirement of two long-serving players.

Andy Holden and Michael Rhodes have both hung-up their boots after making well over 1,000 appearances between them, for both Steeton and Silsden AFC.

For the testimonial, the stalwarts each chose a team of players they had featured alongside over the years.

Everyone taking part contributed £10.

The funds – together with other donations, plus the proceeds of raffles and games held afterwards at the Goats Head pub in Steeton – were given to Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice Manorlands.

Event organiser, Kacey Vickers, joined the retiring duo to present a cheque.

And she paid tribute to everyone who gave their support.

“I would like to thank each and every person who took part or came along to the match,” she added.

“Because of you, we have managed to raise a great amount which has all been donated to the fantastic Sue Ryder Manorlands – a charity that is very close to our hearts.”

Manorlands fundraiser Andrew Wood, who was among those at the game, thanks Kacey and the testimonial stars.

He added: “I would also like to make mention of Sharon and Roy Mason, Robert Tosney, Bryn Morgan, Val Pemberton and Janet Airdrie – who all went above and beyond to make the day such a success – and Chris Jones, who covered the cost of a bouncy castle allowing more of the funds to go to the hospice.

“Steeton is at the centre of our catchment area of care and it is great that people like Kacey, Andy and Michael support us and help us to keep providing the vital care that we do.”
