A FUNDRAISING event in Crossflatts paid tribute to a teenager from Keighley and also celebrated his rugby club’s 70th birthday.

The charity gathering was hosted by Keighley Albion Rugby League Club at its base on Saturday. (Sept 15)

It commemorated Callum “CJ” Mynott, with proceeds going towards the children and young people’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

The occasion raised a total of £755 in memory of Callum, who had played for Keighley Albion and lived in Stockbridge. He died of cancer in October 2015 aged 17.

His father, David Mynott, and stepmother Donna, thanked everyone who contributed towards making the day so successful.

It featured matches between Albion Under 7s against Silsden Under 7s and Albion Under 13s against Normanton Under 13s.

The main match was a CJ memorial rugby game between Albion Old Boys and current Albion players. The younger team won this by 22-20.

The day included a dance performance by children from the Keighley-based Team X-Treme group, live singers Aimee Helena and Emzy Copperwaite and a band – The Ruby Stone Sound.

There was tombola, a raffle, a barbecue, facepainting and a bouncy castle, as well as stalls selling jewellery, cakes, plants and bric-a-brac.

A crew from Bingley Fire Station brought one of their engines down to give children a chance to have a look inside.

Caroline Plum, treasurer for Keighley Albion, said: “It’s gone really well. We’ve had many people, which is good to see, and we’ve had lots more stalls than last year.”

Mrs Mynott said despite the gloomy weather, friends, family and supporters and turned out in force.

She added: “The singers and the band were brilliant and the fire engine stayed for a couple of hours. The kids loved it.”
