A LOCAL military history project is staging a meeting to discuss its bid for a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Men of Worth Project has invited interested people to take part in the gathering, which is from 10am to 11am on Saturday September 22 in the Local Studies Room of Keighley Library.

Men of Worth spokesman Andy Wade said: “This is an initial meeting to gauge interest and outline what we’d like to do with a grant. We’ll invite opinions from anyone who may have ideas on what we could accomplish.

“We’d like to make it clear that the level of involvement is down to the individual.

“They could do just one or two small things to help over the year, or get stuck in with the running of the grant if they wish. It’s up to them.

“But we’ll need help from other volunteers if we’re going to accomplish this. Initially we’ll need help with writing the grant application, and we’ll be speaking to the Heritage Lottery Fund people first.

“Our main objectives at the moment would be to have a user-friendly searchable database built, so the whole Men of Worth database could be online and be freely accessible.

“We’d like something similar for the Keighley War Hospital Register, along with conservation work carried out on this register, a public event to announce the launch of the online database, training sessions for anyone wishing to get involved with database population work, schools packs to be created and articles about the grant and project to be written for our website.”
