A KEIGHLEY pensioner couple are braving the shave in solidarity for their friend who is recovering from breast cancer.

Elizabeth and Philip Deighton will go bald on Wednesday next week to raise cash for Macmillan Cancer Care.

They will go under the razor at Cavendish Street salon Hair Avanti at 1.15pm as part of the Brave the Shave campaign.

Elizabeth, 67, and Philip, 68, both grew up on the Yorkshire East Coast and during their married life lived in Leeds and Bradford, before moving to the Strawberry Street retirement flats about three years ago.

Elizabeth said: “A good friend that I’ve known for over 30 years has recovered from breast cancer and her hair is just starting to grow back.

“This is the least we could do to support her. We’re going to go the full way, completely bald.”

Anyone who wishes to sponsor the couple can pay into the MacMillan Cancer Support collection account at NatWest, London, Millbank branch, Westminster SW1, using the reference HA2018.

There will also be a collection box at Hair Avanti.
