THE JEAN Genie strutted his stuff at this year’s Fallfest and the crowd in Glusburn shouted “Let’s Dance!”.

David Bowie tribute act David Live wowed a packed audience at Glusburn Arts Centre during last weekend’s annual community festival.

Bowie inspired a Space Oddity theme for a programme that also included a school choir contest, gin and beer festival, drama performance, cross-country runs, dog show, and a family rocket trail.

Fallfest spokesman Basil Simon said the audience danced all night to the David doppelgänger.

Basil said: “He was uncanny, he really nailed David Bowie. The concert was a phenomenal success and I’ve never heard such rapturous applause.”

Basil said that overall the three-day festival proved a success, with an amazing community feel.

He said: “There was a huge turnout of parents for the children’s cross-country run. The dog show was well before supported with ‘doggy bags’ and wine for the winners.”

Many people followed the rocket trail around Glusburn and Cross Hills, featuring four-foot models created by pupils from local primary schools.

Sutton CE, Sutton CP, Cowling, Kildwick and Glusburn schools all took part in the first Fallfest Primary School Choir Sing-Off.

Each school performed their own chosen song in front of audience members of parents and staff, while being judged by local music experts including young singer Callum Spencer.

Glusburn Community Primary School was judged the best, with its rendition of A Million Dreams from the film The Greatest Showman.

The choirs combined to sing Bowie’s 1970s hit Space Oddity led by Glusburn School choir master Mike Clayton.

The school dedicated its award to Walter Evans, 97-year-old Normandy war veteran and voluntary teaching assistant, who died earlier that week.

School head Richard Hunt said: “Walter loved his music - and would have been delighted with the choir’s success.”

Fallfest, which has run for several years in and around Glusburn Institute, is organised by a team of volunteers.

A beer and gin festival returned to Fallfest, and Falling Stars Theatre Company performed comedy play The Last Resort.
