A LEADING light in the allotment movement is giving a talk at Glusburn next month.

Phil Gomersall will be the speaker at a meeting of Glusburn and Cross Hills Gardening Society.

He is president of the National Allotment Society.

His talk – Allotment Gardening on a Shoestring – takes place at Glusburn Community and Arts Centre, in Colne Road, on Friday, May 27, at 7.30pm.

Anyone is welcome to attend.

Derek Blackwell, for Glusburn and Cross Hills Gardening Society, said: "Phil has been president of the National Allotment Society for five years and is active nationally as well as in his local area of Rawdon.

"He has a wealth of experience of allotment gardening to share with us."

In 2018, Mr Gomersall was awarded the British Empire Medal for his services to horticulture in Yorkshire.
