A METHODIST minister from Silsden is taking his support for a charity to new heights.

The Rev Stephen Normanton is tackling a wing walk to raise money for mental health charity PeerTalk.

He is chief executive officer of the organisation – which runs peer support groups for adults living with depression, anxiety and similar issues.

Mr Normanton will undergo the wing walk on Saturday, September 17.

He has launched an online fundraising page, at justgiving.com/fundraising/Stephen-Normanton, with a £10,000 target.

"The challenge of doing this is more than a bit daunting – but everyone’s help supporting the work that PeerTalk does will make it worthwhile," he says.

"Depression is very common and any of us – irrespective of age, gender or background – can be affected.

"The isolation and suffering that comes with depression can be tough, as the stigma around it prevents people from seeking support.

"I have seen how a welcoming, non-judgmental setting can make a difference. It might not make the cause of the depression go away, but it does give you the encouragement to go on knowing that you’re not alone."

A PeerTalk support group meets at Skipton Town Hall every Monday, at 7.30pm. Attendance is free.
