MEMBERS of staff at a Cross Hills interiors business completed the national three peaks and raised £6,500 for three worthy causes.

The money was split equally between the three, including ThisIsLuke, which raises money to support Luke Mortimer who three years ago at the age of seven lost both hands and both legs below the knee after contracting Meningococcal Meningitis.

Luke's dad, Adam, who is now his son's full-time carer, joined the Ultimate Commercial Interiors team at the top of Ben Nevis in Scotland to cheer them on, and both Luke and his dad joined the team at their premises in Cross Hills for a fundraising bake sale.

The team took on each of the three peaks one at a time. Snowden, Wales, and Scafell, in England, as well as Ben Nevis; in May, July and in September, one for each charity, ThisIsLuke, Hope For Tomorrow, and Dementia UK.

They decided to split the peaks into three separate events to give all members of the Ultimate team the opportunity to take part and make their challenge fully inclusive to all members, from serious walkers to beginners.

A spokesperson for the team said: "We chose these charities as there was a personal connection to each one and we wanted to help support local causes as well as a country wide charity.

"The first peak that the team completed was Ben Nevis in May in aid of ThisIsLuke! Luke’s dad Adam also joined the team, supporting them as they battled the elements to reach the top. The team completed the walk in 5.5 hours and faced gale force winds, snow and rain throughout the hike.

"The team also hosted a bake sale in the spring to raise more funds for the charities and Luke attended to taste test all our baked goods too. We loved having Luke and Adam visit our showroom in Cross Hills and we keep up to date with all of Luke’s incredible achievements via our group chat. Ultimate is extremely proud that the money we have raised will help Luke’s family with the continuous requirement they have for financial support.

"Spending time with Luke, you soon realise how much the many prosthetics that he needs are adding so much to his quality of life. That’s why we’re continuing to offer support wherever we can and hope that all the people that hear Luke’s incredible story will do the same."
