COMEDY Jack of Diamonds is the latest production from Keighley Playhouse – and the penultimate play of the current season.

Directed by Mike Ellison, it runs at the Devonshire Street theatre from May 1 to 6.

Jack of Diamonds, by Marcia Cash and Douglas Hughes, sees residents in a retirement home take matters into their own hands when they discover an investment advisor has scammed them out of their money.

"Get ready to laugh and root for the underdogs – it's a hilarious comedy that will have you cheering for justice," says a playhouse spokesperson.

"Jack is a former jeweller who made his living buying and selling diamonds via late-night TV ads.

"He lives in a rather luxurious, privately-owned retirement home along with his fellow residents – the visually challenged techno-wizard Rose, the artistically gifted but forgetful Flora, and the narcoleptic beauty Blanche.

"Unbeknown to the four of them, however, the man to whom they’ve entrusted their life savings – a smooth-talking financial advisor named Barney Effward – has been arrested for bilking his clients out of their savings.

"Faced with financial ruin, the four suddenly find themselves confronting the author of their miserable fate when Effward is unexpectedly delivered amongst them – along with several million dollars in diamonds. Pandemonium ensues and hilarity continues as the four retirees find themselves plotting a way to exact their revenge, recoup their losses and keep the authorities from discovering their plans.

"Being older doesn’t mean being any less intelligent or any less fun! The characters in Jack of Diamonds are wildly entertaining and identifiable. They’re quirky and smart and at an age where they speak their mind. When all said and done, age is just a number and it’s priceless – like diamonds!"

The cast includes Kevin and Julia Moore, Gilly Rogers, Bernardine Maloney, Sarah Carr, Howard Clements and Tim Lobley. Evening performances of Jack of Diamonds begin at 7.30pm.

Tickets can be obtained by calling the Keighley Playhouse box office on 07599 890769.

Season tickets can be renewed or bought in the playhouse bar during the production, or by contacting the box office.

The final play of the season will be Sweeney Todd, to be performed from June 12 to 17.

The melodrama has been adapted by Christopher Bond, and the director will be Deborah Mouat.
