A VILLAGE show has been hailed by organisers as a huge success.

Around 450 exhibits, submitted by 75 people, featured in the 103rd Haworth & District Gardeners’ Show.

The event, which included 107 classes, took place at Haworth Village Hall.

A number of exhibitors were making their debut at the show, and this year saw several new classes, including a bottle of home-brewed beer and additions in the vegetable and flower sections.

A spokesperson for the organising committee said: "It was lovely to see the hall once again filled with fantastic exhibits, including vegetables, flowers, handicrafts, produce and entries in children's classes.

"Prize money was paid from sponsorship, provided by many local businesses and individuals, and we are extremely grateful to everyone who has supported us – either by sponsoring classes or providing a raffle prize."

Following the show, exhibits were auctioned off to raise funds for the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice, Manorlands.

More than £520 was coined in, and the total was boosted by just over £120 which had been raised by the committee when it held a pre-event cake and plant stall in Main Street, Haworth, to promote the show.

The Oakworth Manorlands fundraising group provided refreshments throughout the afternoon.

Trophies were presented by local MP Robbie Moore.

After the event, he tweeted his congratulations to everyone involved. He said: "Great to attend the Haworth & District Gardeners' Show. A brilliant turnout with lots of people and some fantastic entries – all to raise money for Sue Ryder Manorlands. Well done to all who took part."

Plans are already underway for next year's show, which will take place on Sunday, August 25.

Trophy winners were: most points in vegetable classes, Brian King; best exhibit in vegetable classes, best exhibit in pot plants and the National Vegetable Society Silver Medal, John Smiles; most points in flower classes, Stuart Shackleton; best exhibit in flower classes, David Hargreaves; National Dahlia Society Silver Medal, Keith Marsh; most points in handicraft classes and best exhibit in handicraft classes, Nancy Dobson; most points in produce classes, Sue Gardner; best exhibit in produce classes, Marjorie Hardaker; most points in children’s classes, Joseph Wilkinson-Yates, and best exhibit in children’s classes, James Swinson.
