A SCHOOLS 'eco champion' has visited Kildwick Primary.

Peter Bell, North Yorkshire Council's schools carbon reduction officer, worked with pupils across all age groups.

He looked at problems with fossil fuels, waste and plastic pollution, and focused on recycling and sustainable transport.

Mr Bell, known as Power Down Pete, said: "It’s always a pleasure to visit Kildwick.

"The work they're doing to reduce their carbon footprint not only has an impact in school, but spreads wider, with children taking messages home and into the community."

Headteacher Tim Whitehead says: "As we see continual images from across the world of environmental disasters, it's more vital than ever to take steps to reduce our energy use.

"Individual actions make a difference and our environmental education in school is putting the children in the driving seat to make lasting changes."
