Hundreds set for proms on the farm

The annual Silsden Proms on the Farm promises to be a night to remember.

This Saturday's event - which begins at 7pm - will raise money for Manorlands hospice and the Silsden Methodist Church Community and Building Fund.

It will take place at Sycamore Farm, Brunthwaite, and will be opened by the Lord Mayor of Bradford. Three live bands will provide entertainment - Herr Jens's Concert Band, Silsden's For One Night Only' group and the Yorkshire Building Society band.

This last group will play favourites from the Proms and will feature soloist Sarah Halstead.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own picnics and awnings. The field will be open from 2pm to allow people to install awnings or gazebos.

One of the organisers, Rosalie Holroyd, said this year's occasion would be fully licensed, allowing for a much larger number of guests.

She said so far about 500 people had bought tickets but added there were still places available. She said the evening had become a highly popular fixture, which was eagerly awaited by many.

Tickets are £10 each, though children will be allowed in for free. Tickets are available by calling 01535 653575 or from Twigg's newsagents in Kirkgate, Silsden.

Alternatively they can be bought on the gate during the evening. Free parking will be available on the night.

Ms Holroyd said each awning space costs £5.

She said last year's event raised £11,020, a total that she hopes will be exceeded this Saturday.
