A HOUSEBUILDER with schemes across the Keighley district is backing an initiative aimed at inspiring young people to consider science and maths-based careers.

Barratt and its David Wilson Homes brand is supporting North Star Science School, created by physicist and TV presenter Professor Brian Cox.

Several events have been held across the region, to promote STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths – subjects, with over 4,000 youngsters taking part in the scheme so far.

Gavin Birch, managing director of Barratt David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West, says: "The North Star Science School brings together hands-on learning, experimentation and the development of practical skills in a fun way.

"This not only prepares the young people for STEAM-based careers, it also equips them with skills they can use in any role.

"We’re really proud to be part of the North Star events and hope that they inspire the next generation of engineers and innovators."

Barratt David Wilson Homes schemes locally include Vision in Keighley, Hewenden Ridge, Cullingworth, and Saxon Dene, Silsden.
