A REVOLUTIONARY treatment for dry eye is now available in Keighley.

Airedale Opticians is offering the treatment, known as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Low Level Light Therapy, at its Towngate practice.

The technology is particularly aimed at addressing meibomian gland dysfunction, which is responsible for up to 80 per cent of dry eye cases.

"Increased use of digital devices both for work and social purposes has resulted in a huge rise in dry eye amongst the adult population," says Mohammed Hafejee, optometrist at Airedale Opticians.

"Sufferers were having to travel to Manchester or Coventry to undergo IPL treatment, but I am delighted to say they can now be treated here in Keighley.

"IPL combined with Low Level Light Therapy is a pain-free and effective way to treat dry eye conditions related to meibomian gland dysfunction, improving tear quality and other symptoms reported by patients.

"Depending on the severity of the dry eye disease, there is a course of four treatments, separated by two to three weeks.

"Research has shown that after the third or fourth treatment, there is an improvement in tear evaluation scores. The full effects can be felt up to a month after the final IPL course."
