A neighbourhood will have to do without its post office and corner store until a new sub-postmaster and building can be found.

The Broomhill branch, in Grafton Road, Keighley, was forced to close on August 21 after its existing sub-postmaster resigned and the property's licence to operate as a post office was withdrawn. Now Post Office Ltd is looking for a new person to run the facility. Field change advisor Bill Earnshaw said: "We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused by this temporary closure.

"We would like to hear from anyone interested in the vacancy, who is able to provide suitable alternative premises.

"Further details are available from our agency recruitment section on 0845 6016260."

People living in the area have been advised to use Oakworth Road Post Office or the main Towngate branch while Broomhill remains closed.

Residents who spoke to the Keighley News on Tuesday said they were very disappointed the branch had shut.

Dennis McDermott-Row, 87, pictured, who has lived in the neighbourhood for 55 years, said: "I've spoken to quite a few people who are sorry it's gone."
