youngsters in the Bracken Bank area of Keighley have been ridding the estate of rubbish as a surprise for their youth centre co-ordinator.

Youth worker Kylie Croft and three members of the group from Bracken Bank Youth Centre - Marie Thompson, Sean Davis Jordan Montgomery - organised the sponsored litter-pick to raise money so they could take part in a special activity.

The group went on a camping trip in Coniston and youth centre co-ordinator Louise Hargreaves had been trying to raise money for them to ride on a "ravine zip wire" while there.

So youth group members - known as the Bracken Bankers - decided to organise the sponsored litter-pick to help her get the money.

Marie, 15, said of Louise: "She doesn't just say right we are doing this' but asks us what to do and then makes it happen.

"We just wanted to do something to say thank you and help her." Sean, also 15, agreed, and said: "She sometimes uses her own money for extra things for us like popcorn at the cinema and takeaways and things like that. She is very good to us."

The group managed to collect £143 in sponsorship money to put towards the cost of the ravine zip wire. Kylie said: "We were really pleased with how the clean-up went. We raised much more money than expected."
