A wheely good ‘bike bus’ idea

A “bike bus” for people who fancy a healthy, environmentally friendly way of commuting into central Bradford is now up and running.

And its organisers say they are keen for more cyclists to get involved.

The once-a-week cycle into the city begins outside Keighley Railway Station, at 7am, each Wednesday, then includes stops in Crossflatts, Bingley, Saltaire and Frizinghall to pick up more cyclists along the way.

The initiative was started in August by Manjit Kumari, of East Morton, and Bingley resident David Carpenter. Manjit said there were now seven regular cyclists on the route with possible plans to start a return journey from Bradford to Keighley in the evenings. At the moment the riders go home at different times.

Manjit explained: “Like a bus we stop at designated places and people with bikes can join up there and tag along with us.

“There’s safety in numbers and it’s also environmentally friendly. We started with two people but now there are seven of us.”

Details about the route, times and how to join, information are online at airevalleybikebus.org.uk.
