York 23, Keighley 27
With a mix of skill, tenacity and spirit, Keighley overcame a 20-0 half-time deficit to record a remarkable win yesterday in Yorkshire Division One.
In a lacklustre first-half performance, they conceded tries by second-row forward Nick Thomas from a five- metre maul and centre Nick Ventrss from a tap penalty close to the line.
Fly half Neil McClure added two penalty goals to his two conversions to leave Keighley seemingly out of the game.
Visiting fly half Alex Brown began the recovery with a penalty goal, although McClure soon landed a similar effort for York.
A try by flanker Stuart Inman, converted by Brown, gave Keighley a boost of confidence and a storming run by flanker Moa Meki brought him a try, again converted by Brown, to set up the chance to challenge for victory.
Full back Mark Beckett's try brought Keighley to within a point of York’s lead and, with three minutes of play remaining, a length-of-the-field move by the backs brought a fine match-winning try for centre Michael Hebden.
